Default Install Photos: 2001 Saab 9-3SE Convertible

did the install this morning... photos below... a few notes:

1. i have the stock factory mirror (not auto-dim) so i had to extend the mount to its maximum extension.

2. there is very little room between the mirror shaft and top of the windshield frame and the material surrounding the frame is very soft and scratches easily (at least after 7 years) so i found it easier to put one screw in the mount just barely connecting to the bottom portion and then swing the assembly across the shaft. i then closed the clamp with the second screw (again, just barely) and then slipped the spacing material.

3. eventually the mount was tight enough that i couldn't swing it back and forth (to get access to the hex screw) but the mount was still not fully tight. at this point i realized i didn't have enough clearance to fit the hex wrench in between the top of the windshield frame and the screw (hence the small amt of scratching of the frame.) i then bent the hex wrench (see photo below) enough to be able to manipulate it into the slot. I think it might be nicer if the screws were threaded from -below- and tapped into the u-shaped piece above... easier to get access... alternatively, a hex wrench with a shorter shaft and bent at an angle would be helpful. (for saab owners, put a soft cloth against the top of the windshield frame while you're working)

with some testing i'll post more notes

Great review and install shots. Sorry about the windshield frame, I will have to find a hex bit or smaller allen wrench to accommodate the tight clearance with convertibles.

Thanks,

Mike
