Mito Harness vs. Gentex Harness

Mito Corporation is the sole distributer of Gentex Rear View Mirrors. Mito manufactures their own wiring harness for some of the Gentex Mirrors. These harnesses utilize higher quality components. The Mito harness is a direct plug-n-play harness and mirrors with this harness are recommended for installers without a lot of wiring experience. The Gentex harness requires the installer to place the pins in the right spots manually.

The Gentex 50-GENK2A is the entry level mirror with the auto-dimming feature only (Gentex harness only). For just $69 you can ensure that your blendmounted accessory will look factory installed.

The first upgrade level is achieved with the 50-GENK20A, featuring the Compass & Temperature in addiition to auto-dimming. The 20A has the Mito harness which requires less installation time than the Gentex Harness, and at this level, in our opinion, the $20 price increase of the 20A ($199) over the 21A ($179) with the Gentex Harness is well worth the money.

A higher level upgrade reveals that the opposite is true, in our opinion. In addition to Comp/Temp & Auto-Dimming, the 50-GENK51A features HomeLink--program up to 3 separate Garage Door Openers. The 51A has the Gentex Harness, requiring more installation time. But its counterpart with the Mito Harness (50A) is $70 more, not worth the money.
