Lightbulb '04 VW Golf .:R32 AWD Test

Hi Frank,

I've just come across your forum while searching for a stealthy mount for my V1.

I drive a 2004 VW Golf .:R32 AWD.

I'd like to beta test your new mount.

I'll be more than happy to provide hi res digital install photos, and thorough fit, finish and end user comments.

I'm a member of the www.vwvortex.com and www.Rdefined.com forums online -
I have a large reach and like to provide great resources to my fellow VDub owners, concerning new, viable after market alternatives to make our driving experiences better in every way.

My .:R32 is a rare vehicle - 5000 units produced for US consumption ... a vehicle that turns heads.
Anything we .:R owners can find to upgrade the ownership experience is a plus, and we ALL take notice.

Thanks for consideration.

Tim

Default Rear View Mirror

Can you post a couple pics of your rear view mirror--a front and side shot? We'll see if the BV1 is compatible.

Question Interesting

There's no windshield pivot, so you would be without the ability to adjust the viewing angle of the V1 independently of the rear view mirror--an acceptable sacrifice for a radar detector I think. Also, the circumference of your "elbow" mount seems to gradually increase as 'you' travel along the top contour from the mirror pivot--on an almost horizontal plane--toward the windshield, ending on a near-vertical plane. The BlendMount Collar was designed for a stem with a CONSTANT 7/8" diameter and with at least a half-inch length; your elbow's taper seems manageable though. If you have calipers handy, measure the min & max diameter of your stem at just behind the mirror pivot, and at about an inch behind the mirror. Hopefully the diameter interval contains 7/8". We supply bushing material to accommodate slight diameter variances.

I assume--from your last diagram--that you want to hard wire the V1?

Let me know if you're still interested--I believe we can make it work with a little ingenuity. We'll make it perfect before publishing anywhere.

Thanks,
frank.

I'll take some caliper measurements in the a.m.
Yes, I'd prefer a hardwire installation.

Question Middle

Those are good measurements in terms of compatibility--.875 is right in the middle.

The next issue--mostly aesthetic--is the hard wire Kit. Will you be doing the hard wire install yourself? I'm wondering if you'll have to create an opening in each half of your elbow assembly, and will that ruin the integrity.

I may have to feed the hardwire kit up under the front edge of the headliner and leave just enough loose wire for the V1 plug to reach the unit.

Thumbs up Direct Hard Wire Power Cord Kit

Currently, we only supply a Direct Hard Wire Power Cord Kit.

I'll ship a BV1 and Hard Wire Kit out to you, it looks like you could make it work without too much effort. Give me your shipping address (Private Message).

If all goes according to plan, you could post a nice install write-up here with some quality pics. Be sure and let me know if any issues come up during the install. Normally we give 50% off for our Beta Testers, but I think you're going above and beyond the call here, so...

Thanks,
we look forward to serving your VW Community.

frank.

I'm waiting for another mirror mount cap set to be delivered .... I destroyed the last one with a dremel that got away from me.

I found that if I can cut a slot in the top of my plastic mirror mount cap(s) just deep enough for the BM shoulder to sit down into ... then I can utilize the grip of the bushing material to snug up nicely, and have a vibration free install.

Thumbs up Nice Work

Keep me posted. I have 3 GTI Beta Testers that'll be interested in what you come up with.

Exclamation R&D

After we come up with a blendmount for the C6 Vettes, we'll look at designing one for Porsche/VW mirrors.
