I have had my Scangauge II installed for almost a year now with it mounted on top of my steering column. I was pretty unhappy with the visibility of my scangauge and gauge cluster. What prevented my getting a blendmount previously was my stereo. I like loud music and rear view mirrors can droop downward with their own weight let alone added weight. I was also concerned that my stereo might rattle it loose to the point that it either made noise or might fall. I decided to try it, however, and ordered a blendmount a month ago and am extremely pleased wit the results. Here are some before and after pics.
Overall the install was very easy. I tucked the cord up into the headliner. There happens to be a slot running the length of my headliner that is perfect for a cable to tuck into and stay out of sight. I ran the wire down the a pillar which required only gentle pressure to remove. This has probably been the easiest upgrade I have done to my car so far.
As you can see in the first and second pictures, mounting on top of the steering column interfered with viewing my mileage and gear indicator. The third picture shows where I had to run the cable to come out on top of the steering column shroud. Sorry I skipped ahead in my pictures but the next picture shows the mount installed using the longer post and no washers which leaves only a 1/4" gap between the mirror and the mount. Lastly is a view of my scangauge at work in its much better, more viewable location. I have tried my best but, even with the extra weight, I have had not been able to budge my mirror down! The mount is very solid and has not loosened or made any noise whatsoever. I will recommend the blend mount to members of my other forum, NAIOA.com and to anyone who has or wants to buy a scangauge II.
