1998 Chevy 1/2 ton with Overhead console
I ordered my scangauge and mount just after Christmas and got it really quick. I was really excited to use it for the first time. I have 208k on the truck and want to monitor more than the stock gauges to warn off potential problems. I love the look of the mount to the mirror. i am all about concealed looks and not junky looking. When the package arrived I couldn't wait to install it. I went out to the truck and started to install it, even though it was about 18 deg outside! I had the unit mounted in about 15 min, including running the cable down the a pillar.
Now the problem... i do not recommend mounting the scangauge on TOP of the mirror with an overhead console in the Chevy full size truck series. I did get it up there and angled toward the driver, but there is not enough room to adjust the mirror up for me to see clearly out the mirror. it is really tight between the mirror and the console.
I am not sure I want it to be below the mirror, I might try that for a while, but I think it would block a little too much windshield.
Now, not all is lost.... If below will not work, I think I can mount the mount to the underside of the console, with a little tweaking of the frame.
i will post some pics as soon as I get some and move the unit around.
note: I bought a second cable to use in multiple vehicles before I installed the unit. It is really not necessary. The cable that comes with the mount goes from the mirror, across the top of the windshield, down the A pillar, under the dash and the adapter lands RIGHT at the obdii port. Then plug the cable from the scangauge into the adapter and the obd port and stuff the wrapped up extra right under the dash.
